Senior Database Engineer

The Database Software Engineer will report to the Database Engineering Manager and will be responsible for designing, developing, and enhancing database infrastructure to implement new product features. Ideal candidate will have strong database design & development experience to improve performance and scalability of large datasets. This candidate should also possess good communication skills and be able to architect and articulate software solutions. This position requires significant interaction with developers, QA and Production teams.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Design, architect and implement scalable database solutions
• Be creative in handling database performance-related challenges as they relate to very large data movement with in a database or between database and flat files
• Enhance current database schema to add new product features
• Design and implement complex SQL queries and database Stored Procedures
• Perform database-related code reviews and make recommendations
• Be effective in articulating and communicating design and implementation

Required Experience:

• 5 years of software development experience with large databases – preferably IBM DB2 UDB or Oracle on UNIX

Required Education:

• BS in Computer Science or equivalent, Masters is a plus

Desired Skill Sets:

• Strong communication and inter-personal skills.
• Have strong desire to learn new concepts and technologies
• Familiarity with Java/JDBC-based database solutions
• Familiarity with J2EE, Perl, UNIX shell scripting
• Exposure to data warehousing, ETL and Reporting tools
• Exposure to Agile/XP development methodology
