Systems Administrator

The Systems Administrator is responsible for administering servers running Linux (Red Hat) and Windows as well as a NAS environment. Must have the ability to install and configure applications in both Linux and Windows environments.  Provide help with second level support using our current ticketing system.  Support and administer network environment including routers, firewalls, vpn, etc. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide system administration, configuration, and troubleshooting of the Windows/Linux environment
  • Monitor and troubleshoot backups, and scheduled CRON jobs, and be able to monitor systems and processes
  • Analyze Unix/Windows Systems, check processes and Log Files, retrieve and review information contained within logs for troubleshooting
  • Manage Storage Devices
  • Configure/Maintain monitoring systems and daily observation of system status
  • Provide documentation and training of duties to new staff and related group
  • Available on a 24x7 basis
  • Basic scripting experience with shell scripts or vbs
  • Manage MSSQL and mysql databases
  • Manage Cisco hardware and update access lists as required
  • Implement new business automation software and tools to help increase productivity
  • Second level support for helpdesk related issues
  • Create and maintain standard server OS installations and images for both Linux and Windows using Altiris, Ghost, or Kickstart.

Required Experience:

  • 2-3 years experience managing and administering a Unix/Linux/Windows environment
  • Expertise to enable the verification of scheduled tasks, process status and resource utilization
  • Basic linux and windows scripting experience to automate backups and monitor systems
  • Ability to work independently to get the job done
  • Ability to work closely with end users and understand their needs and requirements
  • Experience with Active Directory and Exchange 2003
  • Expert knowledge of TCP/IP networking and protocols, including DNS, SMTP, HTTP, TFTP, SSH, IPSec, and SSL.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines, while maintaining a strong commitment to quality of work
  • Ability to communicate complex technical problems concisely and professionally to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with imaging software for both windows and linux OS
  • Ability to implement and manage open source software

Desired Skill Sets:

  • MCSE certification a plus
  • Redhat certification a plus
